    Child Protect of Mercer County, Inc. Executive Director Position Opening (Spring/Summer 2025)

    More than 300 Mercer County children each year find hope and healing through the supportive services of Child Protect of Mercer County, Inc. As Mercer County, WV's nonprofit Child Advocacy Center (CAC) and Family Support Center (FSC), Child Protect serves as a national leader in rural victim services and serving opioid affected youth. Child Protect is searching for an Executive Director with the capacity and drive to carry forward the momentum of our mission-battling abuse and restoring lives.

    Over the past 24 years, Child Protect has grown from an annual budget of $50,000 to nearly $2 million. Our staff size has steadily grown over the years from one employee to our current 15 full-time staff and 3 medical contractors. Child Protect is overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors who are responsible for the overall health and stability of the organization.

    More about the role

    The Executive Director of Child Protect is a unique role that requires professionalism, vision, and leadership. Under the governance direction of the Board of Directors and in partnership with an amazing team of talented staff, the Executive Director works daily to carry out the mission of the organization.

    On a day-to-day basis you might:

    -          Make adjustments to the annual budget

    -          Write a grant proposal or report on an ongoing grant project to the funding source

    -          Draft an organizational policy proposal for the Board's consideration

    -          Meet with community partners around a local initiative or need

    -          Attend a special event hosted by a Child Protect program or another local group

    -          Talk with the media about a news event or issue affecting children and families

    -          Speak to a community group or local government representatives about the work being done at Child Protect

    -          Support staff through a particular challenge in providing services

    -          Collaborate with Child Protect's leadership team to plan for future programming and services

    -          Develop and/or implement a fundraising campaign

    -          Cultivate staff leadership capacity

    The day to day is never dull, rarely routine, and often rewarding.

    Skill and experience we're looking for

    Ideally, we're looking for someone who has some or all of the following as a background:

    -          Bachelor's degree required

    -          Financial management skills (building, revising and managing various funding streams while also monitoring expenses)  

    -          Organizational management experience (building leadership and managing individual staff and teams)

    -          Strong interpersonal and communication skills (speaking, writing and engaging with individuals and groups)

    -          Grant writing and grant management experience with local, private, state and federal grants

    -          Strong organization skills to deftly manage a number of urgent and concurrent deadlines, needs and responsibilities

    -          Extensive leadership experience (to lead the Child Protect staff and Board with the highest moral character and integrity)

    -          Experience in the field of child welfare, child advocacy or human services

    Where and how you'll work

    Child Protect's CAC and FSC offices are both located on Shaker Lane in Princeton, WV. Child Protect offices are open eight hours per day, Monday-Friday.   

    Here's our tentative transparent hiring timeline

    -          March 21 – April 11: apply to be the next Executive Director of Child Protect

    -          Mid- April: application review

    -          Late-April to mid-May – interviews and final decision

    -          Ideally, the next Executive Director will begin their role at Child Protect sometime in June 2025
